Yulian Grape

Yulian is a hybrid grape variety well-loved for its attractive large bunches, early ripening, and the sweetness of its berries.

History

The Yulian variety was experimentally bred by Vasily Ulyanovich Kapelyushny, an amateur breeder. It resulted from crossing the varieties Kesha and Rizamat and was developed in a farm in the Rostov region. It is named for its founder, who chose these two grape varieties to inherit their best characteristics – the Rizamat’s large bunches and high yield and Kesha’s frost resistance and robust disease resistance.

Characteristics

Appearance and Taste: Yulian grapes grow in clusters weighing between 0.9 kg and 2 kg. Each berry weighs up to 20 g, and has a light musk aroma and a sweet-nutmeg flavor. The berries have an elongated-oval shape and contain 3-5 seeds each.

Growth: The Yulian grapevines rapidly grow and adapt to their conditions. They can grow up to 4 m in height in central Russia. These grapes also belong to the table grape varieties, having long stems and bisexual flowers.

Cultivation and Care: Yulian grapes are unpretentious to growing conditions, resistant to many diseases, especially fungal, and frost resistant to -23 to -25 °C. Due to their abundant harvest and heavy bunches, these varieties require constant pruning.

Harvest: Yulian grapes have a quick ripening period. The grape clusters ripen in just 90-105 days and can be harvested early and abundantly. The fully ripe berries boast a sugar accumulation of up to 28%.

Storage and Transport: The grapes have ideal commercial qualities with their long-term storage usability. During transportation, these grapes hardly wrinkle.
