Radiant Grape

Radiant, also known as Kishmish Radiant, is a popular grape variety known for its excellent berry taste, unpretentious growth, and high yield.

History

The Radiant Grape variety was created in 1985 by the breeders of the Moldavian Research Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking NPO “Vierul”. They developed it by crossing the American Cardinal and the Armenian Kishmish pink. Since its inception, it’s been cultivated in Moldova, Belarus, Ukraine, and regions in Russia such as the Lower Volga region, North Caucasus, and the Black Sea coast.

Characteristics

Appearance and Taste: Radiant grapes have large clusters and berries weighing 2.5-4 g. Each berry has an oval, slightly elongated shape with a thick, golden-pink to delicate reddish skin. The pulp is juicy, fleshy, and dense with a positive sweet taste, subtle sourness, nutmeg notes, and delicate aroma.

Growth: It is characterized by rapid growth and an average level of cold resistance. The grape vines are medium-sized or vigorous, with strong vines, reddish coarse-fiber bark and shapely, light green leaves. It’s crucial to understand that the shoots require constant pruning and the vine does not lignify.

Cultivation and Care: Harvesting begins in late August in a southern climate, and in early September in a temperate climate. The variety needs a moderate watering regime, requires support and frequent pruning. During the flowering period, it is advised to remove excess clusters to avoid overloading the bush.

Frost Resistance: The grape variety can withstand temperatures up to -22 degrees Celsius, but in temperate climates, this grape variety may require robust sheltering during winter.
